Mike Woodward takes over as head of investment trusts at F&C
from 1st January 2007. He succeeds Michael Wrobel who
retires next April.
Scottish Widows Investment Partnership has appointed Fraser
Laird as investment director of Japanese equities, reporting
to head of global developed markets Ian Vose. Laird joins
from AIB where he was senior fund manager for Japanese
equities.
Stephen Dolbear is to hand management of the F&C High Income
fund to Christopher Childs and Stephen Crewe next month.
Dolbear will then focus on F&C's hedge fund business.
Gareth Isaac has left Axa Investment Managers, where he was
manager of the Axa Framlington Gilt fund, to join
Societe Generale's bond management team.
Standard Life is to restructure its Global Selector fund
with Lance Phillips, the firm's head of overseas equities,
taking over the management from current manager Esther
Perkins.
Current Investec Asset Management American fund manager Bill
Fries has been joined by Ed Maran and Connor Browne as
co-managers.
Management of M&G's unfettered fund of funds range is
passing from Mark Thompson to David Jane. Jane will continue
to run the M&G Managed fund, while Thompson is assuming a
new role as head of pooled pension funds.
Chris Hutchinson has been named as lead manager on the
Unicorn Free Spirit fund. Hutchinson previously managed the
fund alongside the boutique's chief executive Peter Webb.
Brian Gallagher has left Gartmore where he managed the High
Income trust, ahead of his move to UBS mid January.
Former HSBC UK Smaller Companies manager, Colin Riddles, is
to leave the firm to take over SG Asset Management's UK
small-cap portfolio. Riddles fills the position left when
Richard Stavely joined River & Mercantile earlier this year,
and will become lead manager of the UK Smaller Companies
fund.
F&C have appointed April Larusse to the government bonds
team to look after a number of international portfolios. She
was previously at Lehman Brothers where she worked on the UK
and global fixed income sales team.
Old Mutual Asset Management has appointed three new members
to its European equity team. Graeme Gilchrist, Graham
Forster and Dorothee Deck.
Philip Doel has assumed management control of the Isis UK
Select trust.
Michael Wood-Martin now has sole responsibility for the
Henderson Japan Capital Growth fund, which he previously
co-managed with Jeremy Hall, who will now concentrate on the
Japanese Absolute Return fund, which he in turn co-manages
with director of pan-Asian equities William Garnett.
December 1st sees Sam Morse become the new manager of the
Fidelity MoneyBuilder Growth fund. He replaces Anas Chakra
who will concentrate on pan-European equity mandates.
Abbey's chief investment officer, James Bevan, has left the
firm to become director and CIO at CCLA, which manages the
investments of church, charity and local authority clients.
Richard Colwell has left his position as UK Growth and
Income manager at Credit Suisse Asset Management, with joint
heads of UK equities Crispin Finn and Phil True looking
after the fund until a replacement can be found. Colwell's
departure, to join Morley as high alpha UK equity fund
manager at Morley, comes close after that of income manager
Errol Francis, who left to join Schroders at the end of
October.
David Kiddie has left his equity head post at Barings to
become CIO at ABN Amro. Tim Scholefield, who joined Barings
in September as head of global equities, will fill Kiddie's
role.
HSBC's head of UK equities Chris Rodgers is set to leave the
group in the New Year to set up a boutique fund house with
two former colleagues from Schroders.
Jupiter have appointed Ben Whitmore as manager of the
Special Situations fund. Whitmore joins from Schroders where
he managed the Recovery fund as well as two investment
trusts. Former Jupiter Special Situations fund manager Paul
Sheehan continues to manage the Primadona investment trust
as well as a range of institutional mandates. Justin Seager
has taken over the UK Growth Exempt fund, replacing Derek
Pound.
Mary McBain has taken control of the CF Ruffer Pacific fund
from outsourced manager Ballinghal Investment Advisors of
Hong Kong. McBain joined Ruffer as research director in May
this year.
Societe Generale Asste Management CEO has changed his role
to become specialist UK equity fund manager and head of
asset allocation.
Current head of the European equities team at Singer &
Friedlander, Ian Ormiston, is to join Resolution as European
equities investment manager, with responsibilities for
running Resolution's core retail and institutional European
equity portfolios alongside Jonathan Fearon and Adrian
Darley.
Paul Allison is set to join F&C's US large cap team as a
fund manager in December, joining from Sarasin Investment
Management where he has been managing US portfolios as well
as contributing to global equity funds.
Former F&C director of Japanese equities, Adrian Hickey, has
joined Pictet Asset Management regional equities team as
senior investment manager. Pictet has also hired Peter
Jarvis, previously with Invesco, as senior investment
manager for the global emerging markets team.
Brown Shipley has separated the fund management
responsibilities for the Solus UK Flagship and Solus UK
Special Situations funds. John Smith becomes manager of the
UK Flagship fund while Paul Morgan retains responsibility
for the UK Special Situations fund.
Henry Maxey will not be resuming management of the Ruffer
Total Return fund when he returns from a three month leave
of absence, with Steve Russell and David Ballance being
appointed as co-managers of the fund. Maxey will regain
management of the CF Ruffer Equity and General fund
Natan Levy has been appointed as an analyst at Bedlam Asset
Management. He will support Emerging Markets and Europe fund
manager Julian Pendock.
Resolution Asset Management have recruited Singer and
Friedlander head of European equity Ian Ormiston. Ormiston
will join Resolution next January in the position of
investment director, European equities.
Keith Grindlay has joined JPMorgan Asset Management as a
member of the global interest rates sector team.
Blackrock have appointed James Bristow as a director in the
global equities team. He joins from JPMorgan Investment
Management.
Peter Jarvis and Adrian Hickey are joining Pictet Asset
Management, taking up roles in the global emerging markets
team and regional equities team respectively. Jarvis was
formerly at Invesco while Hickey was director of Japanese
equities at F&C.
Resolution Asset Management have added to their derivatives
team with the appointment of Graeme Lindsay to the LDI desk.
Lindsay joins from Scottish Mutual / Abbey National.
Kaori Ishii has been appointed as investment director of the
Scottish Widows Investment Partnership Japanese equities
team. Ishii replaces Chisako Hardie, reporting directly to
head of global developed markets, Ian Vose.
Kim Goodwin has been recruited as head of equities by Credit
Suisse Asset Management.
Standard Life Investments Growth and Income fund manager
Wesley McCoy has relinquished management of the fund to
Edward Legget in a move which allows McCoy to focus on the
high alpha UK Unconstrained fund.
David Whitten has stepped down as manager of the First State
Investments Global Resources fund, with control being handed
to senior portfolio manager Joanne Warner. Whitten, who
heads up the global resources team, will still manage the
Global Energy Long Short fund and continues to manage the
Global Resources Long Short fund
James Elliot is rejoining JPMorgan Asset Management at the
end of the year to run Japanese money. Elliot, who has spent
the last 18 months on a hedge fund, was formerly a European
specialist.
Scottish Widows Investment Partnership have reallocated some
mandates within the property team in advance of the
departure of Mike Channing at the end of the year. Cameron
Murray has taken over the Scottish Widows Property
portfolio, the Lloyds TSB Property Pension fund and the
Lloyds TSB Life Property fund. John Bailey has taken over
the Lloyds Pension Trust.
First State Investments have appointed Matthew Gulczynski as
a property securities analyst on the Colonial First State
Global Asset management property securities team,
concentrating on UK and European property securities. Prior
to joining First State Gulczynski was an equities
analyst at UBS Securities in Australia.
Leigh Harrison will move from head of UK retail to become
head of UK equities at Threadneedle when Michael Taylor
steps back from day to day fund management at the end of the
year. From January 2007 Harrison will also take over the
management of the UK Growth currently managed by Taylor.
Mark Westwood who recently joined the group from Morley,
will take on the running of Taylor's UK Select with
immediate effect. Steve Hewitt will run the Accelerando fund
from year end and Dominic Baker and Chris White will run
Taylor's institutional and overseas earnings funds
respectively from 1st January.
Standard Life have appointed Chris McGoldrick as investment
director of Global Emerging Markets, reporting to head of
global emerging markets Ronnie Petrie.
Martin Majdaniuk has been appointed as an investment manager
in the Baring Asset Management emerging markets team.
Majdaniuk will join Barings by the end of the year, leaving
Nordea Investment Management in Copenhagen where he
currently runs Central Europe and Russian portfolios for
institutional and retail investors.
Baring Asset Management have appointed Tim Scholefield to
the newly created role of head of global equities.
Scholefield joins from Scottish Widows Investment
Partnership where he was head of international equities.
New Star deputy chief investment officer Mark Beal has
handed management of the Technology fund to Hitesh Thakrar
who has been an assistant manager of the fund since July
2004.
BNP Paribas Asset Management have appointed Christian
Dargnat as chief investment officer.
Aegon Asset Management have appointed Innes McKeand as head
of equities. He joins from Allied Irish Bank Investment
Managers where he was chief investment officer.
Amanda Sillars has been appointed investment director
covering institutional and investment trust accounts at
JPMorgan Asset Management. She was previously lead analyst
in the funds team at JPMorgan Private Bank International.
Three members of the SOCIÉTÉ Générale Asset Management
European fund management team, joint European equities head
Matthew Leeman and European fund managers Jonathan Day and
Riccardo Bindi will be leaving following a review of
European equity management strategy. The teams in Paris and
London are to be merged to create a single product group,
headed by Eric Turjeman with his deputy being Sarah
Pohlinger. All three people leaving SGAM are joining Morgan
Stanley's European equity team in December.
Head of equities at Morley Fund Management, Tim Thomas, has
been replaced by Niall Paul, previously head of emerging
markets and Asia.
Ewan Markson-Brown has joined Newton as an Asian equities
fund manager reporting to investment leader of Asian
equities Jason Pidcock. Prior to joining Newton Markson-Brown
was a member of the developing markets team at Merrill
Lynch.
Five new members have joined the Goldman Sachs Asset
Management global fixed income and currency team,
Kevin Corrigan, Stephen Goldman, Samuel Lopez-Briceno, Kaori
Limori and Maki Hanawa.
Matt Harris is joining Standard Life Investments as
investment director for Japanese equities on 2 October.
Harris, formerly of Scottish Widows Investment Partnership,
will report to head of Japanese equities Robert McKillop and
will be responsible for stock selection and sector research.
New Star have appointed Robert Jeffrey as senior funds
analyst for the fund of funds team. Jeffrey was previously
managed funds analyst at Principal Investment Management.
F&C UK Equity fund and Isis UK Select trust manager Jamie
Hooper is leaving the group to take control of the Axa
Framlington UK Growth fund which has been managed by Nigel
Thomas since May. F&C associate director of UK equities
Roger Jones will take responsibility for the UK Equity fund
while Hooper will retain control of the Select trust, which
is due to wind up later this year, for the time being.
Hooper is thought to be joining Axa Framlington in November.
Control of the Odey Japan vehicle has passed from lead
manager Alex Griffiths to deputy Nick Sharp so that
Griffiths can concentrate on the Japan & General hedge fund.
Andrew Dalrymple has left his position as manager of the
First State Global Opportunities fund to join a start up
boutique firm. Habib Subjally replaces him at First State.
New Star UK Growth fund manager Stephen Whittaker has taken
over the UK Hedge fund from Alan Miller who has gone on
sabbatical leave. Miller, who was also joint chief
investment officer will be permanently replaced in that role
by Gregor Logan, who was previously deputy joint chief
investment officer.
Ben Thompson has been appointed as co-manager of the Baillie
Gifford High Yield Bond fund, running the portfolio with Ken
Barker.
Former head of US Equities at Gartmore, Simon Mellusih, has
rejoined the company after leaving only last year. He now
reports to head of global equities Neil Rogan and is
responsible for the sales and marketing of the Gartmore
SICAV Global Focus fund, the Gartmore Global Focus OEIC and
the Gartmore Global Hedge fund.
Aegon have appointed John McNeil to the fixed income team as
head of international rates. McNeil joins from Resolution
Asset Management where he was in charge of US, European and
Japanese Government bond markets and currency analysis.
Morley Fund Management has added two new members to its
global fixed income team. Maurice Browne is appointed to a
newly created fund manager position while Gabriela Schneider
is promoted as an investment analyst.
Former Aberdeen Asset Management global head of fixed
income, Rod Davidson, has joined Scottish Widows Investment
Partnership in a similar role.
Tom Laidlaw, Mike Channing and Matt Harris are all leaving
Scottish Widows Investment Partnership at the end of the
year. Property team head Laidlaw and his deputy Channing are
setting up their own business, while Japan desk head Harris
is set to join Standard Life.
M&G has made changed to its Japanese equity team, with Dean
Cashman and Vaughn Chang taking over the M&G Japan Smaller
Companies fund. Chang will manage the fund on a day to day
basis with Cashman providing overall strategic guidance. The
previous manager, Kenichi Ura has left the company.
Lee Manzi has left JPMorgan Asset Management to team up with
his former boss Miles Geldard at hedge fund MPC. Manzi ran
the fixed income portion of the JPM UK Equity and Bond
Income fund, his responsibilities have been handed to Talib
Sheikh.
L&G have appointed Roger Bartley as head of fixed income,
joining from Gartmore.
Chu Beng Liang and Atul Tetambe have left the emerging
markets team at Allianz Dresdner RCM.
Gartmore have appointed Tobias Grun as a senior credit
analyst within the fixed income team. He joins from HSBC
where he was head of European credit research.
F&C have appointed Terry Coles as alternate manager to
Sophie Horsfall on their international funds. Coles leaves
Morgan Stanley to join F&C.
Taube Hodson Stonex Partners chairman, Nils Taube, will
retire from running retail money after almost 40 years when
he steps down from the firm in December.
Head of equities at Threadneedle, Michael Taylor, is handing
over control of the funds that he's been running since the
departure of Graham Kitchen last year. UK Growth and Income
is being passed to Chris White this week. UK Select will
pass to Mark Westwood when he joins from Morley in
September. Taylor intends to retain control of UK
Accelerando until further notice, but plans to release
control of the UK, UK Institutional and UK Overseas Earnings
funds by the end of the year.
Simon Baker, ethical manager and part time SRI consultant at
Jupiter, has left the group in order to concentrate on his
organics foods business. UK equity desk member, Chris Watt,
will expand his current responsibilities to include SRI from
the beginning of this month.
Richard Burns, Jamie Ward and David Chitokomere have joined
Solus' fund management team. Burns joins from Watson Wyatt
and will run the group's three fund of funds with Michael
Clarkson. Chitokomere will provide support across the range
with Ward fulfilling a trainee fund manager role.
The UBS Select fund will be run by Matthew Cox when current
manager Paul Fairbrother takes up his role as head of
portfolio construction on the firm's pan-European equity
team. Currently Cox is a fund manager and analyst in the
pan-European small and mid-cap team run by Frank Manduca,
and has also been involved in the running of the UBS Life UK
Small Company and UBS UK Smaller Companies funds.
Paul Wimborne is moving from his role as deputy on the
Insight Asia Pacific Equity fund to join Barings as a global
emerging markets portfolio manager in the autumn. He will be
replaced at Insight by global equity head David Marchant.
Societe Generale head of global emerging markets, James Syme,
is to join Baring Asset Management in a similar role. Syme
is currently working out his notice and is expected to
manage the Emerging Opportunities and Global Emerging
Markets funds as well when he joins Baring.
Ben Whitmore is leaving Schroders to run the Jupiter Special
Situations fund. Whitmore will take over the running of the
fund from current manager Paul Sheehan in October. Sheehan
will continue to manage the Primadona investment trust and a
number of institutional mandates. Whitmore will be replaced
as manager of the Schroder Recovery fund by analysts Kevin
Murphy and Nick Kirrage, who will co-manage it.
Former F&C and Canada Life manager Michael Gifford is
replacing Suresh Sadasivan as manager of the Old Mutual
Asset Managers Equity Income fund. Sadasivan has returned to
the group's Asia Pacific equity team.
Maria Daniels and Alex Soulsby have joined F&C as derivative
fund managers in its asset liability business. They join
from Barclays Capital and JPMorgan respectively.
Artemis has appointed Andy Gray to its small-cap team. He
joins from Scottish Widows Investment Partnership and will
work with Lindsey Whitelaw, assisting with the New
Enterprises funds as well as the firm's VCT's.
Takashi Saito has joined Scottish Widows Investment
Partnership's global strategy team as investment director,
global strategy. He joins from Aesop Capital UK.
Ella Brown has been appointed as global head of equity
research at ABN AMRO Asset Management. She joins from Credit
Suisse.
F&C European and European Dynamic fund manager Davina
Curling is taking maternity leave with co-manager Peter
Jarvis taking the helm until her return.
Standard Life Investments have appointed Arthur Milson as
director of fixed income.
Neil Nathwani has joined BDT Invest as a fund manager in the
Asian and global emerging markets team. Nathwani was
previously with Old Mutual.
Investec have moved to fill the gap created by Dan Hanbury's
departure to River & Mercantile later in the year. Philip
Rodrigs takes over the UK Smaller Companies fund while the
Investec UK Alpha fund will be taken on by Ken Hsia
A reshuffle at Henderson sees Paul Casson take over
management of the European Growth fund from John Botham.
Botham will continue to manage the Horizon European Equity
fund as well as heading up European institutional funds
business.
Clare Andrews, Victoria Amlot and Audrey McKeown have all
joined Morley Fund Management as assistant fund managers on
the specialist property funds team.
Former Gartmore manager Peter Dalgliesh is set to join F&C
as director responsible for the Pacific Assets trust.
Ian Vose has joined Scottish Widows Investment Partnership
as head of global developed markets. He joins from Allianz
Global Investors where he was head of research and chief
investment officer of global markets. He reports to SWIP's
equities chief investment officer, Graham Wood.
Mark Hargraves has is running the Axa Framlington Managed
Growth fund on an interim basis while a permanent
replacement for Chris Armstrong is sought. Armstrong, who is
joining Berenberg Bank, also worked alongside Hargraves on
the Europe desk, a position now filled by Tim Short,
previously a senior fund manager on the global equities desk
at SocGen Asset Management.
Katy Dobson has joined the emerging markets team at
Threadneedle Investments from Pictet Asset Management. She
will be a manager responsible for Latin American equities
and may be deputy to Jules Mort on the Latin America fund.
David Wise has taken over management of the Morley Property
Investment which, as reported last month, was relinquished
by Geraldine Davies so that she could focus more on the
Norwich Property Trust.
Ben Rogoff has taken over as manager of the Polar Capital
Technology trust from Brian Ashford-Russell. Ashord-Russell
will continue in his role as a director looking at asset
allocation and strategy for the porfolio.
Former Schroders UK Equity manager Chris Metcalfe, who left
the group earlier this year, has joined Newton Investment
Management to run UK institutional mandates.
Mike Woodward has been appointed as deputy head of
investment trusts at F&C. He joins from Martin Currie.
Canada Life have named Kim Lee as manager of their Far East
fund, replacing Manish Kataria who left at the end of last
year. Lee joined Canada Life in March from Shell Pensions
where she was a fund manager.
Verita Asian and Real Return Asian fund manager Ezra Sun has
resigned from his role as director of these funds in order
to spend more time actively managing them.
James Chung has replaced Chris Ruffle as manager of the
Martin Currie China Sicav. Ruffle remains with the company
to manage more specialist China products.
Mohammed Zaidi has joined Scottish Widows Investment
Partnership as an institutional fund manager on the global
emerging markets team. He was previously a senior analyst
for global emerging market equities at Principal Global
Investors.
Baring Asset Management have appointed Kevin Lorkins as head
of sterling fixed income. Lorkins joins from Morley Asset
Management.
Mark Beale, joint deputy chief investment officer at New
Star, has handed management of the North American fund over
to Greg Kerr, who joined New Star at the end of January.
The position of the three managers recently reported to be
leaving Gartmore for Resolution Plc has become less clear,
with Gartmore stating that the group was still in talks with
them regarding the matter. For their part, Resolution are
insisting that the three still have every intention of
joining them.
Martha Wang has replaced Patrick Lo as manager of the
Fidelity China Focus fund
Another Barings manager is leaving to join Resolution Asset
Management. Bryan Collings is leaving his post managing the
Barings Emerging Opportunities and Global Emerging Markets
funds to manage similar portfolios at Resolution.
Meanwhile four of Gartmore's senior managers have stepped
down from their positions as part of a restructuring
exercise in the wake of the acquisition by Hellman and
Friedman. Jon Thornton, head of UK equities, Roger Bartley,
global chief investment officer, Philip Ehrmann, head of
emerging markets and Charles Beazley, global head of
institutional and alternative investments are the managers
concerned. Beazley, Thornton and Ehrmann are known to be
leaving the group although it's not yet clear where for,
while Bartley is joining Legal & General as head of fixed
income. Gartmore is creating a single distribution division
containing their alternative, institutional and retail
groups with Paul Feeney heading it up. The two global
emerging markets teams are to be merged and lead by Chris
Palmer with Ehrmann's Greater China Opportunities fund being
taken over by Charlie Awdry.
Catherine Stanley has been appointed by F&C to replace
Stephen Grant as manager of the Isis UK Smaller Companies
trust.
Leigh Himsworth will manage a UK mid-cap equity fund, UK
Strategic Growth, for Royal London Asset Management to be
launched on 01 June. Himsworth joined RLAM from Rensburg in
April this year.
New Star UK Growth fund manager Neil Whittaker will also be
working on the Skandia Investment Management Global Best
Ideas fund.
William Lam has been appointed as an analyst on the Invesco
Perpetual Asian equities team reporting to head of Asian
equities Stuart Parks. Lam joins from Orbis Investment
Advisory.
Skandia Investment Management Limited has announced that
Artemis CEO & UK fund manager Mark Tyndall will be the first
named fund manager on its Global Best Ideas fund which is
due to be launched shortly. Tyndall will manage on of the UK
portions within the fund an will be joined by an as yet
unnamed member of the New Star UK investment team.
Barry Hill, Justin Brand and Henry Richardson have all been
appointed as property asset managers at Morley Fund
Management. Colin Dryburgh has also been appointed as a
European equities analyst reporting to head of European
equities, Rita Dhut. Dryburgh joins from Brewin Dolphin
Securities.
Chris Higham has been appointed as co-manager of the Old
Mutual Dynamic Bond fund and will jointly manage the fund
with head of fixed interest, Andrew Tunks. Higham has been
with the company since joining from Morley Fund Management
in June last year.
Four fund of funds managers, Keith Barnett, Peter Clark,
Victoria Prendergast and Paul Gibson, have resigned from
Singer & Friedlander Investment Management.
Morley Property Investment fund manager Geraldine Davies has
relinquished her role in order to concentrate full time on
the Norwich Property Trust.
Greg Bennett has replaced Michael Barnard as manager of the
Marlborough UK Equity Income fund. Barnard remain at
Marlborough Fund Managers as part of the investment team and
continues as lead manager of the Marlborough UK Equity
Growth fund.
New Star has appointed Gavin Potts to its property team to
assist Roger Dossett with the acquisitions process of the
Property unit trust. Potts was formerly head of property at
Pavilion Asset Management and MGM Assurance.
Chris Morrell joins JPMorgan Asset Management as a global
emerging markets portfolio manager. He joins from the
investment banking division of Merrill Lynch where he was a
managing director with responsibility for global emerging
markets equity sales.
SG UK Growth manager Hugh Sergeant is leaving the group to
join River & Mercantile, along with SG UK Smaller Companies
manager Richard Staverly. Both are anticipated to be working
out their 3 month notice periods. Hari Sandu, currently
co-manager on SK UK Growth is continuing on the fund.
Dennis Clough has taken the position of head of European
equities at Schroders as part of a re-jig of the
pan-European equity desk., which also sees UK Equity manager
Chris Metcalfe leaving and being replaced by Simon Brazier.
Clough will continue to manage the Schroder European
portfolio he took over in October last year.
Bernard Moody, who left Sarasin Chiswell as reported in
April, has joined Progressive Asset Management as investment
director of emerging markets.
Hak Salih is leaving M&G and being replaced as manager of
the Income fund by Alex Odd, currently manager of M&G's Fund
of Investment Trust Shares and deputy manager on the M&G
Extra Income fund. At the same time Nick Evans, formerly
with DWS, is joining the group to assist on the M&G Income &
Recovery investment trusts, replacing Jonathan Parker who is
also leaving the company.
Three managers from Barings have joined Resolution Asset
Management (formerly Britannic) as part of the plan to set
up an as yet unnamed emerging markets boutique within the
company. The managers are Stuart Richards, John Payne and
Marina Akopian, managers of the Baring Emerging Europe
investment trust, Dublin based Global Resources portfolio
and EMEA hedge fund respectively. All three are in the
process of working out their notice periods and Barings have
not as yet named replacements, though co-managers are in
place on each of the funds to take them on if required.
Fidelity International have appointed Nicky Richards as
chief investment officer for European equities responsible
for the group's UK and European equity investment. She joins
from Schroders.
Peter Cooper has been named as head of retail and leisure
asset management at Schroders. He will be responsible for
the retail and leisure assets in the Schroder Exempt
Property Unit Trust and the Schroder Emerging Retail
Property Unit Trust.
Mervyn Douglas is to leave his post as manager of the L&G UK
Growth Trust and return to former employer Morley. Douglas
will join the specialist equities team lead by David Lis and
work alongside Chris Murphy when he joins later in the
summer, as well as assuming the co-manager role on the UK
Focus fund.
Sarasin EmergingSar and EmergingSar-Asia fund manager
Bernard Moody has resigned from the company. Chief
investment officer Guy Monson will run the funds until a new
manager is appointed.
Schroder's UK Large Cap manager and deputy manager of the UK
Equity fund, Jeremy Smith, is set to join Neptune in the
summer to run the UK Equity fund. Head of UK equities and UK
Alpha Plus fund manager, Richard Buxton, will run the Large
Cap fund until a replacement is found.
The Jupiter Growth and Income fund will be taken over by
Phillip Matthews, who managed Jupiter's UK Smaller Companies
fund until he moved over onto the income desk earlier this
year. Previous Growth and Income fund manager Paul Sheehan
will focus on growth funds.
Fred Rizzo has left Citigroup to join the F&C Pan-European
Equity research team.
Raj Thamotheram has joined Axa Investment Managers as
director of responsible investment overseeing policy issues
relating to corporate governance and sustainable
development. Thamotheram was previously with the
Universities Superannuation Scheme.
Martin Currie have appointed James Chong to work alongside
China team head Chris Ruffle in Edinburgh as well as the
Shanghai based research analysts. Chong joins from the Hong
Kong office of Lombard Odier Darlier Hentsch.
Polar Capital have appointed Samir Patel to head up the
group's forthcoming Latin American fund. Patel was
previously co-manager of the Latin American fund at
Charlemagne Capital alongside Stefan Herz. Patel's position
on this fund is now taken up by Ian Simmons.
Britannic Asset Management, rebranding as Resolution Asset
Management in early May, has reportedly hired three managers
from Gartmore to replace its European equity team. Gartmore
European Focus manager Tim Callaghan, Gartmore European
Growth manager Adrian Darley and Jonathan Frearon who works
on a number of portfolios are to take on the management of
Brittanic European Growth as well as a number of other
institutional and life portfolios. Diane McEwan and Andrew
Killean have already stepped down from the positions as
investment manager and head of European equities
respectively. Current responsibility for all Britannic's
European vehicles rests with existing European team member
Fiona Page and investment director Kevin Fenelon. Gartmore
has said that it is still in discussions with Callaghan,
Darley and Frearon.
Fidelity's Neal Miller is to step down as manager of the
American Special Situations fund in the summer. Miller, who
will move into some sort of advisory role yet to be defined,
will be replaced on the fund by Bob Haber. Haber has worked
for Fidelity's US affiliate, Fidelity Management and
Research for 21 years.
HSBC's Global Emerging Markets Freestyle fund will be
managed by Nick Timberlake who joined the group from F&C a
year ago.
Axa Framlington is set to launch another Japanese fund when
Chisako Hardie joins the group from Scottish Widows
Investment Partnership later this year. Axa Framlington UK
Blue Chip manager Chris Murphy is leaving to join Morley in
the summer to take over the UK Equity fund from Lloyd
Whitworth. Murphy's UK Growth and Blue Chip funds will be
looked after temporarily by Nigel Thomas.
Fraser Chalmers has been moved back to Standard Life
Investments' Japan desk to run institutional assets whilst
Stanley Pearson has been recruited to be head of European
equities. Former head of equities at Pioneer, Pearson joins
Standard Life on 10 April
A number of managers at Franklin Templeton have been
appointed as permanent replacements on the funds they have
been managing while Ken Cox has been on a leave of absence.
Martin Cobb takes over the Growth and Templeton
Global (Euro) funds. George Ritchie takes on the Templeton
Global fun, with Uwe Zoellner running Templeton Euroland and
European Sicavs and Andrew MacKirdy continues to run the
European fund.
Jun Tano is to take over the management of Fidelity's Japan
Special Situations and offshore Japan Smaller Companies
funds on the retirement of current manager, Asako Kibe.
Although Kibe is retiring from the group, it is understood
that he will maintain a mentoring role in in respect of the
Japanese investment team.
Morley Fund Management has appointed Hassan Johaadien as
asset allocation specialist and Sergio Ferreira as
quantitative analyst on its strategy team.
Former HSBC Income manager Simon Gergel will replace Nigel
Lanning as manager of the Merchants trust and Allianz RCM UK
Equity fund when Lanning retires in May.
Standard Life Investment Growth and Income fund co-manager
Wesley McCoy becomes sole manager with Euan Stirling handing
over the lead management role. Stirling remains a member of
the UK equities team.
A number of changes on Schroders European Smaller Companies
funds. Institutional European Smaller Companies manager Iain
McNaught will head the onshore Schroder European Smaller
Companies portfolio. Former manager Andy Lynch will run the
offshore Schroder ISF European Dynamic Growth and ISF Euro
Dynamic Growth funds.
Aegon head of fixed income Mark Zinkula has left the group
for an academic career.
The Jupiter UK Smaller Companies fund has been taken over by
ex Deutsche manager Richard Curling, who joins the company
this month. Former manager Philip Matthews is moving to a
role supporting the equity income manager Anthony Nutt.
First State have transferred the responsibilities previously
held by Kevin Colglazier to Sydney, where Tony Fitzgerald
and Warren Bird are now jointly responsible for fixed income
operations. Paul Jourdan and Murray Collis in the UK
have taken over the responsibility for the Balanced
portfolio. Emerging market bond portfolio manager Alia
Yousuf has followed Colglazier to Standard Asset Management.
F&C have appointed Richard Wilson as head of equities, his
previous position was head of pan-European equities. In
addition Paul Grice joins from Barings to lead the UK and
international government bond desk.
Framlington UK fund manager Chris Murphy is to transfer to
Axa Investment Managers as manager of the Axa UK Growth
fund. Murphy currently manages the Framlington Blue Chip and
Framlington UK Growth funds, both of which are expected to
merge with Axa's UK Growth fund and be marketed under the
Axa brand.
Jan de Bruijn has joined Threadneedle Investments as fund
manager and analyst for the Asian equity team reporting to
head of Asian equities Vanessa Donegan. De Bruijn was
previously at Scottish Widows Investment Partnership as
investment director in charge of institutional pension funds
invested in global emerging markets, as well as deputy fund
manager on the Global Emerging Markets retail fund.
High Yield bond specialist Andrew Lake has moved from
Merrill Lynch Investment Managers to F&C, where he will
co-manage a number of high yield bond products such as the
F&C European High Yield Fund.
Yui Ben Lai and Sam Shan have joined Atlantis Investment
Management as fund manager and Chinese equity analyst
respectively. Both join the Chinese equity team and report
to manager of the Atlantis China and Chine Fortune funds,
Yang Liu.
Pete Cawston, Kave Sigaroudinia and John MacDougall have
been promoted by Baillie Gifford to co-managers of the
American, Income and Japanese funds respectively.
Investec Asset Management has promoted a number of people
within the fixed income team. Harsha Patel and Anne
Lees-Jones become co-heads of credit, and Keiran Roane
becomes co-portfolio manager of Investec's high yield funds,
managing alongside Chris O'Hare.
Standard Life Investments' head of credit Andrew Sutherland
has relinquished his lead manager role of the Higher Income
and Select Income funds. The new managers are Erland Lochen
and Alasdair MacLean respectively.
A reshuffle of the Henderson emerging markets team
sees Divya Mathur switch to Europe, Australia and Far East
portfolios, with Claire Seanor being named as his
replacement on the Emerging Markets fund.
Investec Asset Management have appointed Nigel Hankin to
their global equity team as a services sector specialist. He
joins from Mirabaud and has previously been deputy head of
global equities at RCM.
Rupert Brandt, who left F&C last month, is to join Findlay
Park, working on the US Smaller Companies fund.
Jenna Barnard has been promoted to co-manager on the
Henderson Preference & Bond and Strategic High Yield Bond
funds.
F&C Asset Management have appointed Gareth Morgan to their
emerging equities team. Morgan, who is a Latin American
specialist, joins from Shell Pension Management Services.
Having left SG Asset Management in early January, Neiloy
Ghosh has joined Newton as to replace Miki Sugimoto as
manager of the Japan fund. Gosh will report to Newton chief
investment officer Jeff Munroe and, in addition to managing
the Japan fund, will be investment leader Japan equities as
well as taking over the Dublin-domiciled Mellon Japan Equity
Fund. Sugimoto is joining Veritas.
Former DWS
manager Graham Ashby has joined Sarasin Chiswell. At DWS,
Ashby managed the UK Equity Income and UK Income Plus funds
along with the Deutsche Equity Income investment trust.
Sarasin are launching two open ended income vehicles later
in the year which will be headed up by him.
Framlington
Absolute Growth manager Paul Branigan is moving to Premier
Asset Management and taking his fund with him. The fund will
be renamed Premier Absolute Growth when it is transferred in
April.
Franklin
Templeton have named a number of temporary lead managers as
a response to the leave of absence of equity manager Ken
Cox. UK Growth manager Martin Cobb will fill in on the
Templeton Growth fund with Andrew MacKirdy taking on
Templeton Europe. Cox's offshore vehicles Templeton Euroland,
Templeton Global and Templeton Global Euro pass to Uwe
Zoellne, George Ritchie and Martin Cobb respectively.
New Star have
appointed former M&G Global Technology manager Greg Kerr to
their North American team. Part of his role will be to run
the US element of the Family Investments Child Trust Fund
and he will also contribute to the overall running of the US
equities team. Kerr left M&G back in June.
Co-head of
emerging market equities at Thames River Capital, Rory
Landman, has retired leaving Martin Landman as the sole head
of emerging market equities at the group.
ABN Amro Asset
Management have appointed Andrew King as head of Europe,
Australasia and Far East portfolio management and North
American equities.
Dunedin Smaller
Companies Investment Trust manager, Andrew Paisley, has left
Aberdeen to join Britannic Asset Management. He is succeeded
by Ed Beal. Aberdeen have also announced the retirement of
David Binnie, manager of the Dunedin Income & Growth and
Edinburgh New Income vehicles. Management of the Dunedin
trust will be filled by Yoon Chou-Chong, the group's head of
pan European equities while deputy manager Stuart Methven
will take the lead role on the Edinburgh fund.
Patricia Wilson
is to take the lead manager role on the Scottish Widows
American Growth and American Select Growth funds. As well as
heading up the American equities team Wilson will also
retain management of the North American Smaller Companies
fund. There is no confirmation yet as to the roles of Andrew
Herberts or Christine Martyn who previously managed the
Growth and Select funds respectively.
Another departure
at SVM, with Life Office Opportunities Trust manager Brian
Moretta leaving the boutique. Management of the trust and
offshore SVM TEP fund passes to the group's founder Colin
McLean.
David Taylor has
joined Chelverton Asset Management in advance of the launch
of their first Oeic, Chelverton UK Income. Taylor was
previously a small cap manager at HSBC.
Scottish Widows
Investment Partnership head of international equities Tim
Scholefield has left the group following a restructuring of
the international equities division. The global markets
equities team have been split from the from the emerging
markets equities team, with Kim Catechis heading up the
emerging markets operation.
Martin Currie
Japan manager, Michael Thomas is to retire in March or April
next year with the intention that current co-manager John
Millar becomes sole manager at that time.
Roger Noddings is
named as chief investment officer of HSBC Investments UK
business.
Kevin Colglazier
has been appointed head of fixed income at Standard Asset
Management. Colglazier was previously head of global fixed
income at First State Investments.
Neiloy Ghosh has
been replaced as manager of the SG Asset Management Japan
fund by Stephen Harker. Ghosh has left the group following
its decision to relocate the global equities team from
London to Paris.
Latin American
manager Rupert Brandt has left F&C to join an investment
boutique, although he will remain as manager of the F&C
Latin American, F&C Emerging Markets trusts, F&C Latin
American Oeic and the Latin American portion of the Foreign
& Colonial Investment Trust until the end of March.
Management of the Emerging Markets trust will pass to head
of emerging markets Jeff Chowdry.
Frederic Gautier
is leaving his position as manager of the Fidelity UK Growth
fund after 12 years with the company. His replacement is
Carlos Moreno who has been with the company for over 10
years. Additionally Thomas Fraenkel-Thonet has been named
manager of Fidelity's Luxembourg-domiciled European Larger
Companies Fund following Gautier's departure.
Old Mutual Asset
Management have appointed Jinhui Luo and Xavier Gerard as
research analysts. Luo joins from Barclays Global Investors
while Gerard joins from State Street Global Advisors.
Chris Hutchinson has joined Unicorn Investment
Management as a support manager to chief executive Peter
Webb on the Falcon Investment Trust and UK Smaller Companies
fund. Hutchinson was formerly with Montanaro Investment
Managers as lead manager of their Recovery Trust.
Rensburg UK Mid
Cap Growth trust manager, Leigh Himsworth, is to leave the
firm at the end of March. Management of the fund will be
taken over by Paul Spencer who rejoins Rensburg after having
spent time working for Granville Davies Limited and TD
Waterhouse.
Former DWS UK
Opportunities fund manager Phil Doel is managing the
recently launched F&C Asset Management UK Opportunities
fund.
Richard Turnill
has been appointed as manager of the Merrill Lynch
Investment Managers Global Titans fund, replacing Ian Rowley
who resigned late last year. Turnill, who joined MLIM in
1996 was also appointed head of the global equity team in
December.
A series of
changes at Newton Investment Management to start the New
Year. Following the departure of Glenn Pratt to boutique
Dalton Strategic Partnership, management of
the Newton Growth fund has passed to Richard Wilmott, while
the Newton Income fund will be jointly managed by Rob
Marshall-Lee and Nick Clay.
At Dalton, Pratt, who becomes a partner in the firm, will
lead the UK equity fund team with a view to a fund launch
later this year.
